Kate Young is the Director and Owner of Rocky Peak Technical Services, bringing over 20 years of expertise in clean energy, water resources, and technical communications. Throughout her career, Kate has demonstrated a commitment to innovation, collaboration, and inclusivity across various sectors.
In her previous roles as researcher and Geothermal Program Manager at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), driving a 250%+ growth in the lab's geothermal portfolio by spearheading successful proposals and securing significant funding. She played a key role in developing cutting-edge research in energy systems, regulatory analysis, and best practices for resource management. Notably, she has successfully written multi-million dollar grants for highly competitive government research programs.
Kate has co-published more than 50 papers, contributing to the advancement of knowledge in her field. She has developed and delivered content for technical training courses and proposal writing, as well as reviewed technical content and validity for patents, including prior art assessments. Additionally, she has created influential tools and resources that have streamlined processes and enhanced decision-making for developers, agencies, stakeholders, and policymakers.
With a background in engineering and education, Kate has worked in various capacities, including as a water engineer, field engineer, energy analyst, educator, and as an expert witness. These experiences reflect her adaptability and comprehensive knowledge in technical fields.
